Testosterone Lawsuit Information

Did you take prescription treatments for low testosterone? Have you suffered from health complications as a result? Read on; you may have legal options for restitution.

The drop in testosterone that comes along with age is no longer a taboo topic. Marketing for testosterone treatments is a massive industry. Millions of middle-aged and older men have used testosterone medications to address the effects of decreased testosterone levels, or “low-T.” As men grow older, their bodies produce less testosterone, which can lead to a lack of energy, loss of muscle mass, and decreased sex drive, among other things. Doctors frequently prescribe medications to help combat the undesirable effects of lowered testosterone levels. It’s a popular treatment – estimates project that the low-T medication industry will be worth more than $5 billion within the next several years.

However, in early 2014, after the release of two separate studies showing serious concerns about the side effects of testosterone medications, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched an investigation into these treatments. The concerns turned out to be well founded. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) released a study involving more than 55,000 men who underwent treatment for low testosterone. The study found, among other things, that men over age 65 had doubled their risk of heart attack in the first three months of taking prescription testosterone medications.

The name brand drug getting most of the attention in these cases is AndroGel, a prescription testosterone cream made by AbbVie, Inc.

However, the dangerous side effects of low testosterone medications are not limited to AndroGel. Testosterone treatments come in a variety of forms, and they all seem to carry the same health risks. Some other name brand treatments include:

  • Bio-T Gel, Fortesta, and Testim (all gels like AndroGel)
  • Axiron Testosterone Cream
  • Androderm Testosterone Patches
  • Testopel Pellets and Straint Tablets
  • Delatestryl and Depo-Testosterone Injections

If you or someone you love has suffered a heart attack or stroke after being treated with any of these low testosterone medications, you may have legal options. To find out more about how you can benefit from joining a mass tort class action, contact Colorado Roberts Law today.
